Calcium Carbonate is one of the most widely used and essential fillers in the paper industry. As a bright white mineral, it is incorporated into paper pulp as a filler for alkaline papermaking or applied as a coating pigment to enhance brightness, smoothness, opacity, and print quality. The growing preference for alkaline papermaking—known for producing longer-lasting and more durable paper—has significantly increased the use of Calcium Carbonate. Being the most abundant non–silicon-based mineral on earth, Calcium Carbonate also plays a crucial role in printing inks. It serves as a cost-effective white pigment and can be coated to provide higher gloss and improved surface finish. Its affordability and performance make it a preferred extender, reducing the dependence on more expensive pigments like Titanium Dioxide.
